How it works
Export your item list as a CSV
From a spreadsheet, or from another POS's "item master" / menu export — whatever you already have. You don't need to reformat it into a Biller-specific template first.
Open "Upload Menu Photo" and choose Import from CSV
CSV import shares the same upload screen as the photo scan on your Menu — tap Import from CSV and pick your file instead of dropping in photos.
Biller reads the columns it recognises
It matches common headers a few different ways — Item Name / Name / Menu Item, Price / Rate / MRP, Category, and Item Type / veg-non-veg — and safely handles a comma inside a quoted item name like "Salad, House". Columns it has no home for (item IDs, tax slabs, packing charges) are simply left out.
Review every row, then commit
Your rows land in the exact same review step as an AI photo scan: each name, price, category and type is editable, a row whose name matches an existing item is flagged with a price comparison and an "update existing" option, and any row can be removed — before you save.
Why it matters
The single biggest reason restaurants stall on switching POS is the menu re-entry tax — nobody wants to retype 200 dishes and prices by hand. If your catalog already lives in Excel, Google Sheets, or another system's export, CSV import lets you carry it over in one upload. It reads the columns most exports actually use, spelled a few different ways, and quietly drops the vendor-specific extras (item codes, tax slabs, packing charges) that don't have a home in Biller yet — so a messy real-world export still lands cleanly, and you review it before anything saves.
The honest caveats
- It needs a name and a price column it can recognise. Headers are matched flexibly (Item Name / Name / Menu Item; Price / Rate / MRP), but if none are found Biller tells you the format wasn't recognised rather than importing junk.
- It imports name, price, category and veg/non-veg — not everything. Columns Biller has no field for (item IDs, tax slabs, packing charges, sub-categories) are ignored, not migrated.
- Nothing saves until you review. Rows land in the same editable review step as the AI photo scan — fix a price, catch a duplicate, remove a row — before you commit.
Frequently asked questions
What columns does my CSV need?
At least a recognisable item-name and price column. Headers are matched flexibly — Item Name, Name, Menu Item or Product Name for the name; Price, Rate, Item Price or MRP for the price; plus optional Category and Item Type (veg / non-veg) columns. If none of the required headers are found, Biller tells you the format wasn't recognised rather than importing garbage.
Can I import an export from my old POS?
That's exactly what it's for. Import is generic — point it at another POS's menu or item-master export. Extra vendor-specific columns it can't map (tax slabs, item codes, packing charges) are ignored, and you review everything before it saves.
Will a comma in a dish name break the import?
No. The parser handles quoted fields properly, so an item like "Salad, House" or a name with a line break inside quotes imports as a single item, not several broken ones.
Does it overwrite my existing menu?
Only if you tell it to. On the review screen, a row whose name matches an item already on your menu shows a price comparison and an "update existing" checkbox — untick it to add the row as a new item instead. Nothing is saved until you commit.
CSV or the AI photo scan — which should I use?
Whichever fits what you have. If your menu already lives in a spreadsheet or another system, a CSV is the cleanest path. If it only exists on paper, snap a photo and let AI read it. CSV import is also the reliable fallback if photo scanning is temporarily unavailable or rate-limited.
