Billing for shops and stores
Biller works for more than restaurants. When you create your outlet, the
setup asks one question: What do you sell? Pick Everything else
(shop, store, counter, service) and the whole app reshapes itself around a
counter instead of a kitchen.
What changes for a shop
- Items, not menus. The catalog screen is called Items, and adding an
item asks only for a name and a price -- no dish descriptions, no
veg/non-veg types, no recipes.
- One counter, no tables. Billing is a single quick counter: pick
items, take payment, done. There are no table screens, no kitchen queue
and no waiter handoffs to think about.
- Two roles. Your team is Admins and Cashiers. Kitchen and Waiter
roles simply don't exist for a shop, so nobody can be given a screen
with nothing on it.
Tax on each item
Restaurants usually charge one GST rate on the whole bill. Shops sell
across several rates -- so in shop mode, tax is set per item:
- When you add items, Biller suggests the right tax rate for each one
automatically.
- You review them all on one screen -- each row reads like
"Soap -- 18% tax" -- fix any that look wrong, and tap Confirm all.
- An item can't be billed until its tax is confirmed. The Items screen
shows a reminder banner until you've done the one-time review.
Once confirmed, every bill splits its taxes correctly by rate, and your
GST reports pick the right numbers up automatically.
If you set things up before answering
You can wander into Items or Outlet before you reach the question, and
plenty of people do. Answering Everything else afterwards still gives
you the shop product:
- Your counters are replaced by the single shop counter. Anything that
routed to a kitchen has to go -- a shop has no kitchen to route to.
- Your items are kept. Anything you typed or edited stays exactly as
you left it. Only the demo dishes you never touched are cleared away.
Picking the answer carefully
The answer to "What do you sell?" is set once and can't be changed later --
if you picked the wrong one on day one, write to us from Feedback and
we'll help you sort it out.
