Order notifications on your phone
Biller can alert you the moment a bill is created, a table is waiting on the kitchen, food is ready, or a bill is settled -- even when the app is in the background or closed.
The first time you sign in
Before your phone or browser asks for permission, Biller shows a short screen explaining why -- new orders, kitchen tickets, and bill updates. Tap Turn on and the real permission prompt follows immediately; tap Not now and nothing is asked. This screen appears once, the same way on the Android app and the web app.
On the Android app
After you tap Turn on, Android asks "Allow Biller to send you notifications?" Tap Allow and you're done -- the device enrols itself and starts receiving your outlet's alerts.
You only get alerts for the outlet you're signed in to, and only for what your role covers: kitchen staff get preparation alerts, admins also get the daily sales summaries.
On the web app
After you tap Turn on, your browser asks for notification permission once; after that the same alerts arrive as browser notifications, including when the tab is closed. If you tapped Not now, you can still turn them on later from the bell in the top bar.
On a Windows, Mac or Linux computer with Biller.app
If you installed Biller.app on this computer and opened Biller from it, alerts arrive as real desktop notifications from "Biller.app" -- with the same title and text as on Android -- even when the Biller window is closed. Clicking one opens Biller on that bill. Biller registers this computer the first time you sign in from the Biller.app window; there is nothing to switch on.
You get either the desktop notification or the browser one for this window, never both. Registering the computer turns off browser notifications for the Biller.app window only. Your phone and any other browser keep theirs.
What to know:
- Biller.app must be running (its icon is in the tray or menu bar). If it is not running, no desktop notification can reach this computer.
- Windows shows the toast under the name "Biller.app". If the toast cannot be drawn, a balloon from the tray icon appears instead.
- Mac: Biller.app is not yet signed with an Apple certificate, so macOS may not authorise its notifications. Then a plainer notification appears, and clicking it does not open the bill. Open Biller from the menu-bar icon.
- Linux needs
notify-send(installed on most desktops). The notification shows what happened, but clicking it does not open the bill. Open Biller from the Biller.app tray icon. - A computer shows alerts for one person at a time: whoever is signed in in the Biller.app window. When you sign out or switch outlet, this computer stops showing your alerts, and the next person to sign in gets theirs.
- Alerts you only get while signed in, for your outlet and role, like on every other device.
Turning the sound off
Open the bell and switch on Silence notifications. Alerts still arrive and still badge the bell -- only the alert sound is muted. This is a per-device setting.
If you tapped "Not now" on the intro screen
Nothing was asked or denied -- Biller will offer the intro screen again after a couple of weeks, or you can turn notifications on any time from the bell in the top bar.
If you tapped "Don't allow" on the actual permission prompt
Android will not ask a second time, so the bell no longer offers a Register button -- it would not be able to do anything. Turn notifications back on in your phone's Settings › Apps › Biller › Notifications, then reopen the bell.
If you manage more than one outlet
Switching outlets from the top bar moves your device's alerts to the new outlet immediately -- you only ever get one outlet's alerts on a given device at a time, matching whichever outlet you're currently switched into.
If alerts stop arriving
- You signed out. Signing out removes that device from the outlet's alert list on purpose, so the next person to use a shared phone doesn't receive your outlet's orders. Sign back in and they resume.
- You were removed from the team. Alerts for that outlet stop immediately.
- You reinstalled or cleared the app's data. Open the app and sign in once; it re-enrols itself.
What the alerts look like
Each alert shows the table or counter and what changed -- "Table 4 is waiting for Kitchen", "Table 4 Delivered", "Table 4 completed with ₹420". Tapping one opens the app on the matching screen.
