Shop Billing Software with GST Invoicing (2026): Biller.app Isn't Just for Restaurants Anymore
Published
If you've been to Biller.app before and mentally filed it under "restaurant software", that's fair -- it's what we built first. As of this week that's no longer the whole story: when you set up a new outlet, there's a new question -- "What do you sell?" -- and picking "Everything else" turns Biller.app into billing software for a shop counter instead of a restaurant. Here's exactly what that means, and what it doesn't.
One question, and the app reshapes around a counter
At setup you pick Restaurant / café (restaurant, café, bakery, cloud kitchen) or Everything else (shop, store, counter, service). Choose the second and shop mode isn't a restaurant app with a few things hidden -- it's genuinely simpler, because a shop doesn't need what a restaurant needs: no kitchen or waiter roles, no KOT, no ingredients or recipes, no table sessions. Billing is a single quick counter -- pick items, take payment, done. The catalog screen is called Items, not Menu, and adding one asks only for a name and a price.
GST, per item, not per bill
A restaurant usually charges one GST rate across the whole bill. A shop sells across several rates in the same basket -- soap at 18%, rice at 5%, a notebook at 12% -- so shop mode sets tax per item instead. When you add an item, Biller.app proposes the HSN code and GST rate for it automatically; you review the proposals once on a single screen -- each row reads like "Soap -- 18% tax" -- fix anything that looks wrong, and confirm. An item that hasn't been confirmed can't be billed, so a wrong guess can't silently reach a customer's invoice.
Invoice numbers that hold up under GST Rule 46(b)
Every bill from a shop outlet gets a sequential invoice number in the <outlet code>/<financial year>/<serial> format required for a GST tax invoice -- for example OUT1/2526/000042 -- capped at 16 characters, with the serial resetting only on 1 April each year, not on any other date. No two invoices from the same outlet share a number, and issued numbers don't skip, the same guarantee restaurant outlets have had.
What this doesn't change for existing restaurant outlets
If you're already billing on Biller.app as a restaurant, nothing moves under you -- existing outlets stay in restaurant mode with no prompt and no migration. The new question only appears when you create a new outlet. Shop mode is additive, not a replacement for what restaurants already have.
What we haven't built yet
Two honest gaps, so you can judge whether this is ready for your shop today: there's no barcode scan-to-add or scan-to-bill yet -- items go in by name and price, one at a time, and barcode support is next on our list but not live. And shop mode is quick-bill only -- there's no separate "counter queue" or order-ahead flow beyond pick-items-and-pay. If either of those is a hard requirement for your store right now, hold off; if you mainly need correct, fast GST billing at a counter, it's ready.
Who this is for
Biller.app is built for small and mid-size Indian businesses -- from a single counter to a multi-outlet chain -- and a fast setup has always been meant as an on-ramp, not a ceiling. Shop mode extends that same positioning past restaurants: a kirana store, a pharmacy, a stationery shop, a salon front desk -- anywhere a counter needs to bill correctly and fast. It's free to start with 510 Biller credits once, no card required; a plain bill costs one credit, and credits never expire.
